Rentap

Background
Rentap is Iban warrior who fought the British in Sarawak.His original name is Libau, which means "world shaker''. Rentap also nicknamed as the "King of the Land" because he was the leader of the Iban in Sungai and Sungai Saribas Skrang. He was born in 1800.

Opposition factor

Rentap against the Brookes because Brookes thougt the Iban in Skrang River as a pirate. James Brooke set up camp at Sungai Skrang to monitor the movement of the Iban .His actions eliminate Iban settlement on the River Skrang sparked a revival of Rentap.




 Opposition occasion
  • 1853  Rentap was attacked fortifications of James Brooke in Nanga Skrang. Rentap and his team won and a British officer, Allan Lee was killed by them.
  • 1854 James Brooke attacked Rentap forts in Sungai Lang and burnt the village of Rentap. Rentap's followers retreated to Rentap Bukit Sadok and built bunkers. Rentap received strong support from Iban villagers and dubbed as the 'King of Ulu'.
  • 1857 James Brooke sent Tuan Muda Charles Brooke to attack the fortress of Rentap in Bukit Sado. Charles Brooke was successes to persuade 3000 500 Iban people and 500 and Malays in order to attack Rentap camps in Bukit Sadok. Charles Brooke failed to beat Rentap because of a strong fortress. The following year, once again, Charles Brooke tried to attack Bukit Sadok but failed. Rentap used the words of encouragement in opposition to this; ' Bring all the artilleries from Europe, we are not afraid to you people of Europe'.
  • 1863 James Brooke was leaded the team to attack Rentap in Bukit Sadok. The battle happened for a month. James Brooke burnt camps and homes of Rentap followers and used artillery named 'Bujang Sadok' to oppose Rentap. Rentap used a type of iron artillery, 'Bujang Timpang Berang' to resist the forces of Brooke. Rentap retreated to Entabai to draw up a new strategy but finally rentap died there.
